Oh yes...   Pit crews are the most abused people on the face of the earth....at least those that crew for me.  :))  They are the support people.  Patiently wait for you at the vetchecks, only to then be your "slave".  They cool, care, feed, walk, blanket, sometimes trot out the horse for you.  They are like Pit crews at NASCAR....except for horses, and usually don't change the tires.  They provide you with food (if they are really good), let you sit back and relax and do everything for you and the horse.  A really good crew is a special person.   They are not a requirement, but do make things nicer.  If you are used to not having one, you won't miss not having one now.  And if you get one, they tend to spoil you to wanting one.
