Re: [RC] Skito pads for english saddles - Lynne Glazer

When I rode in a conventional English saddle, I liked the Skito pads with the 1/2" inserts, as others have said, so as to provide some cushioning yet not alter the saddle's fit. The thicker inserts are for treeless saddles, that need some way of creating a gullet space so that the rider isn't sitting on the spine, hence the use of 1" and 3/4".

As for wear, for frequent laundering, the cordura top can't be beat. I had the hemp top, which did fade after much use, but held up way better than cotton would have. Also, the cordura tops dry really fast compared to their upholstery fabric choices. In the humid south, I'd think that cordura would be the way to go.

Also found that the poly-wool (35-65%) was the most durable for frequent laundering. I have Skito pad sets (no inserts) for my Reactorpanel saddle, most of which are 3-4 years old, and they look like new (albeit covered in grey hair even after laundering, this time of year!)

Would give the Supracors a try as Libby said, if you've got the budget, and are riding Wintecs particularly. Congrats on your new Air-rab!

I just got a new English saddle, and I'd like to get some high quality saddle pads rather than the thin stuff at my local tack store. In the past, I used Skito pads with a Sportsaddle and liked the pads a lot. Just wanted to see if any of you are using skito pads with English saddles. Like most treeless saddle users, I used the skitos before because there was no gullet in the sportsaddle. However, even though I now have a conventional saddle, I'm thinking the cushioning properties of the skito foam might be nice to have for distance riding. I just want to make sure the skito will not alter the fit of the saddle.

Comments?

Thanks in advance,
