Subject: [The EDGe] Horses for
Sale (mostly Arabs)

For the past few years I have been purchasing Arabians at the Shipshewana Auction in order to prevent them from going to slaughter. While many of the horses I have may not be class A quality they, are still good horses and deserve a better fate than where they were headed. What follows is a brief description of each horse and what I know about them. The prices reflect what I have in them - I simply want to see them go to good homes where they will be loved and used. If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached by e-mail at cartermargaret@xxxxxxxxxxx or by phone at (574) 353-1916 (home) or (574) 223-2713 (work).

Merryglen Sohpia - Registered 14.3h bay mare foaled 4/01. Raffles breeding, green broke. She tends not to be an easy keeper. She is also an alpha mare and can put up a fight when she doesn't want to do something (like being wormed - she hates it). $550.

Emira Sun - Registered 15h flea bitten grey mare foaled 5/94. Egyptian bred with a bit of Raffles.  Apparently broke to ride but was just used as a brood mare for the past few years. Nice looking mare, also hates to be wormed. $550.

KH Platinum - Registered 14.3h grey gelding foaled 5/97. Egyptian bred and Bask. Stocky build, not a flashy looking horse but nice. Would probably do western or endurance. Hasn't had much handling due to original owner's ill health. $400.

KH Asteroid - Registered 14.3h grey gelding foaled 5/98. Full brother to KH Platinum but finer boned with a lovely head. Also hasn't had much handling. Has a timid disposition. $400.

Diversity Dawn - Registered 15h fleabitten grey mare foaled 3/93. Almost straight Polish with a bit of Raffles. Very sweet disposition, anxious to please.  She was trained "by the girls at the barn" I was told,  so I think there are some gaps in her education. She is a bit post legged in back. $600.

Laces Bay - Registered 14.2 grey filly foaled 3/00.  Pretty with a friendly laid back attitude and a stubborn streak a mile and a half wide. She has done some ground work but has not been started under saddle. $750.

TP Duet - Registered 14.2 bay mare foaled 5/85.   Egyptian bred and Bask. She has lovely ground manners but at some point must have had a rider who hung on the reins because when you ride her she is hollow backed & stiff in the jaw. I am working to get her to soften and give to the bit but we still have a  long way to go. I am also trying to get more weight on her.  $600.

Selkit Gladiator - Registered 16h sorrel gelding foaled 2000. Straight Russian. I was told his full brother is doing well as an endurance horse, but this guy is so laid back I don't see him following in his footsteps. He is very green but has a puppy dog disposition and seems willing to learn which is good because he doesn't know anything. He is a bit straight in the stifle and needs to put on more weight because he won't defend his hay from the other horses. $600.

Sassy - Registered 1/2 Arab 1/2 Saddlebred. Bay mare foaled 4/90. She has a forgiving disposition but awkward conformation as she is hip high, long in the back and straight in the stifle.  Whoever trained her did a lovely job because she is very sensitive to a rider but because of how she is built she cannot move in a collected frame, nor can she carry a very heavy rider. I've ridden her sidesaddle and at Civil War events. She is not an easy keeper. $750.

PT Heritage Song - Registered but I don't have her papers tho the original breeder said he would help with getting replacements if I ever wanted to show her. I think she is about 11 and I was told she was shown halter. Liver chestnut, very elegant and sensitive mare with a lovely drape to her neck so she would probably go western. She is a Padron granddaughter and daughter of Padronat (sp?). I have ridden her at a walk and trot but I think she needs to be chiropracted before starting canter work. She cannot be bred because she has an ovarian cyst. $650.

Rosie - Sorrel mare 5 or 6 years old, 14.3h. Half Arab, half Paso Fino but not registered. She is very willing and sensitive to a rider. My daughter put 30 days training on her and thinks she might make a nice dressage horse. $700.

Willow - Grey mare 11 or 12 years old, 15.1h.  AngloArab, no papers. She lacks confidence and I get the feeling her training was incomplete as she doesn't stay in the bridle and doesn't know her canter cues.  Timid disposition, not an easy keeper. With proper training, I think she would make a pretty English horse. $450.

Reprieve - Stocky whte Arab gelding 14.3h, probably in his late teens. Looks like he must have had papers at some point. He is a well broke English horse with good manners. He has been ridden on trails and by young children in lessons. He must have had a rider who wouldn't stay out of his mouth because it took my daughter a long time to get him out of the habit of flipping his head and he will let you know if he is annoyed with you. He has a lovely canter but is a bit post legged in back. Very easy keeper. $750.

Psyched - Very leggy 5 year old son of Padron Psyche.  Sorrel gelding, at least 15.3h. We have the paperwork to register him but have not done so yet. He has a sweet disposition and lovely manners. Basically green broke, not the easiest of keepers probably because he has a bit of a parrot mouth. Also a little too straight in the shoulder to go class A but still a striking horse. We had him on antibiotics for an impacted tooth and it seems to have cleared up the problem, but I can't guarantee it won't need to be extracted at some later date. $750.

And then there is Dude - 6 or 7 year old mustang gelding, grey, 14.1h. He will never win a beauty contest and if he were human he would probably be a biker with his tough-guy attitude, yet in his extended gaits he can move like a dressage horse. I was told he'd had 30 days training and was trail ridden but I have only done ground work with him. Hates to be wormed, a very easy keeper. $275.

We have a few additional horses available, both Arab and non-Arab. Training is also available thru my daughter for $275 per month. I have described each of the horses to the best of my ability, but if you want a 2nd opinion, Terry Stutz teaches at my barn once a week and I'm sure she would be willing to do a further evaluation on any horse you might be interested in.  She is very knowledgeable about Arabs and I do not hesitate to recommend her. As far as I know they are all sound, but if you want to have a vet check done I certainly will not be offended. Also, if any horse you purchase does not turn out to be what you were looking for, I will gladly buy them back. I simply don't want to seem them end up back at that auction. If you see one you would like more information on or photographs of, just let me know.

Sincerely,
Margaret L. Carter
