Re: [RC] Dog attacks while riding - indiancp

i totally agree with the attack first mode. once i was riding my 16.2h tb on some trails near here when that may have saved our lives. there were generations of wild dogs living in this area at that time and they weren't afraid of people or much of anything else.
we were riding when down the trail when i saw a pack crouched in the weeds. i feel very sure they had every intention of jumping us when we passed by. i knew if i turned and ran they be on us and more than likely bring us down so instead i put my horse right at them with me screeching like a banshee! LOL you should have seen them scatter. in seconds there wasn't a dog to be seen. sometimes dogs in the area would join up with the wild packs for a day or two (til they got hungry probably) one old man told me he got out of his truck one day and started into the woods (probably to tend his stile (sp?). anyhow a pack advanced slowly toward him and he backed up til he could reach in his truck and get his gun. he said he saw his OWN dog in the pack. he shot a couple before they could all escape. i asked if he shot his own and he replied, "naw, i didn't want to shoot that dog. that's a good dog." tell you now i'd have gotten that one if i didn't get any of the others. a dog that disloyal shouldn't be allowed to live.

I ALWAYS face the dog as soon as I notice it threatening. If the dog
keeps coming, I ask her to get him and she'll snake out her neck and charge the dog. I have never had a dog NOT run after two steps toward them on a pissed off horse.
