Re: [RC] Dog attacks while riding - Jody Rogers-Buttram

You can buy a little sonic noise maker.  Only dogs can hear it, and the horses don't.  I bought years ago, only cost about $14, is small, hold it in your hand.  I have used riding my bike, running and riding horses.  The dogs run up to you, when they get about 15 feet from you....zapp those ears !!!   Nearly 100% of the dogs will stop, and turn back.

Has anyone had the problem of being attacked by loose dogs while riding? The area I ride has a rural county park where city people bring their dogs to run. Some of these dogs are uncontrollable and mean. Last week, a mastiff type dog attacked my horse. Luckily she was not severaly injured and the owner caught the dog before it went after me or my dog. Does anyone have suggestions for defending myself against dog attacks while riding? I live in Kansas and it's windy alot, so using MACE does not seem like a good idea for fear of it blowing into my face or my horses face.
