[RC] the weight debate - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

Good posts on this subject. Gloria wrote recently about the metabolic testing
she'd had that showed just how little she needed to eat just to maintain. 1200
calories! Thats not much food! But that is exactly it - we have to eat less
food. But South Beach, North Beach and those Beachy diets have put into our
heads that if we eat a certain type of food, we can eat more of it. I'll review
my day and think "okay - had a lot of high fat,but no carbs today - I'll be
okay." Or another day, well, had no fats, lots of veggies, and few carbs, so
today shouldnt be a problem. Or how about - I just rode 8 hours, that should
allow me to eat an extra portion of chili and some chips. But the reality
is.... if we eat more calories than we use, we will not lose. And the sad sad
thing is that it is looking like it is staying under 1200 calories that for
many of us if the only thing that will get weight off! My big question to any
expert out there is when we do exercise a lot or ride long hours - how can we
avoid the hunger that turns us into vacuum hoses! How is that the marathon
runners stay so slim when they work that hard and dont burn fat? And how do
they avoid sitting down after a run and inhaling every edible item within their
grasp??
