Re: [RC] A second chance at the same horse and other cloning questions - Maryanne Gabbani

Looks like I've got a jump on you boys. I have a 20+ yr old mare who I utterly adore. She qualfies for Hell Bitch status on occasions but lives to move and was the push to get me interested in endurance in the first place. She's never done a ride but we've probably accumulated a lot of mileage just seeing what is over the next hill. I bred Dory to a purebred Egyptian Arab stallion about 10 years ago and got....Xerox! Actually named Nazeer, but he was a copy of his mother. His father had a reputation for somewhat bizarre behaviour at times and went by the barn name of Ganan (Crazy One), so having a copy of Dory was just fine. Her next foal was a pasture accident whereby the very young son of her best buddy, a grey Anglo Arab now- gelding called Nayzak covered her in the sneakiest fashion and produced....The Return of Xerox. Fagr is now four and will be started under saddle soon but promises to be a darling boy. Now neither of them are quite the character that their mother is but they are essentially identical except for the arrangement of white socks on a chestnut body. The boys are actually a bit of an improvement over mom in one sense...they take much better care of themselves. Dory's never had any sense of self preservation.

Cheaper too.

I've had one great horse. I feel blessed to have her. One horse that I
looked forward to riding and riding. One horse I enjoyed riding so much
that training for 100's was not work (and it is a lot of work to train
for 100's) it was a pleasure. I feel extremely fortunate to find such a
horse - not many people do. Of all the people I know in this sport I can
only name a couple handfuls of such bonds between people and their
horse. Would I like to have a chance to have her show up again in my
life - you bet I would.

I have two of her offspring - but it's not the same. So if you ask me I
would consider it an honor to have a young Hell Bitch grace my life
again - in a New York minute.

I contacted the company that cloned Val's horse about doing Kahlil, but alas,
the cost is waaaay beyond my means. Of course the clone wouldn't be Kahlil, it
would be a different horse, but closer genetically than any offspring could ever
be. If I could do it, I WOULD do it, no question.
