[RC] Julie's book and riding - Jody Rogers-Buttram

Hello Ridecampers !!!!

I have just started reading Julie's book, Marie brought it to me from the convention....and I did get the signed book.  :))  Thanks Marie!!!  Anyway, I have only read the first few chapters...and I love it so far.  But, there seems to be something that makes me think....why and how, can all of us here on Ridecamp dare to whine, gripe or bitch about such issues as, rider's egos, who gets the best awards, not having time to get ready for a 50 or 100, who gets the best parking, and on and on.   Julie didn't have an LD ride to learn on.  She started on a 100 miler...and not just ANY 100, but the Tevis for Pete's sake !!!!
I think that we have evolved into a bunch of whimps.  We think we have to have a certain type of horse, saddle, feed, shoes, truck, LQ trailer, heart monitors, gps equipment.   That we CAN'T go out to do a 50 until our horses have been babied thru a zillion LD's, that we have elevated ourselves and mounts to some platform of excellence because they received a yearend award for something like a weight division placing (when there are tons of those given out) , that we ourselves have to eat power bars, have the newest tights, go to some fitness guru.  I want to say, that we should be challenged to go out, and enjoy our horses, bite off the big mouthful and just chew it up.  Stop making excuses for "holding" ourselves back from the longer distances, from reaching higher goals.  Dump the "I can't do it yet" attitude people, just grow up and live life.  If you haven't read this book and you really do THINK you are an endurance rider....then get it and read it.  Maybe it will inspire you do get off that excuse couch and do something.
