[RC] FW: Young Riders and Juniors riding FEI - Steph Teeter

p.s. regarding age of Juniors per USEF rules:

GR126 Junior. 1. An individual who has not reached his 18th birthday as of December 1st of the current competition year.

2. The age of an individual on December 1st will be maintained throughout the entire competition year.

i.e. if you turn 18 between December 2, 2005 and December 1, 2006 - then you are classifed as a Senior for the 2006 season (USEF classification)

i.e. if you do NOT turn 18 by December 1, 2006 - then you are classified as a Junior for the 2006 season (USEF classification)

I stated below that riders 18 and younger need a sponsor and/or waiver.

Correction: riders who are classified by USEF as Juniors need a sponsor or waiver per USEF rule.

Steph

p.s. it is not entirely clear if this particular USEF rule applies to FEI rides in the USA... I've received a few different answers so far, will post the final/definitive/fer-sure answer when I get it.

Subject: Young Riders and Juniors riding FEI

I've put together some of the requirements for Juniors and Young Riders wishing to ride FEI. AERC International has formed a Junior/Young Rider sub-committee - aimed at help Juniors and Young Riders get qualified, putting together a team, and generally promoting FEI Endurance for Juniors and Young riders. For definitive answers to questions regarding FEI competition, contact United States Equestrian Federation - www.usef.org .

Here are the basics of what you need. USEF will process all of the required fees and registrations.

 Horse  requirements :
1.  75/100 *** National or International passport, current influenza (6 months)
2.  50 **  Influenza vaccination documentation (within 6 months)  and ID diagram (  e.g  coggins  certificate )
3.  FEI registration  number
4.  Recorded with USEF

Rider  requirements :
1. must be AERC member
2. must be USEF member

3. must have FEI registration
4. if 14 - 18 yrs of age, must either ride sponsored, or have waiver from AERC  (requires 500 AERC lifetime miles, and statement of verification from AERC to USEF )
5. must pay IHP fee  to USEF  of $25 per event for USEF Junior members (18 or under)

If you start now, you will still have time to do membership and registrations (USEF and FEI) and passport your horse in time for the May 20 FEI ride in Idaho (http://www.endurance.net/oreana/owyhee100).  There may also be passported horses available for lease or borrow.  There will be other FEI rides in the US this year, so if you can't get ready by May 20, contact the other ride managers!

Think Argentina!
