Re: [RC] Swaybacked horses - Jeannie Gillen

Fire N Ice lives about 1 mile from me, and he is truly a gorgeous boy....I have never seen a more beautiful Palomino (?looking horse. I don't know or care much about all the paperwork.)  All the babies I have seen from him, have equally powerful color and blonde/flaxen/white mane and tail.....He also has an incredibly sweet disposition which he seems to pass on.

Fire N Ice is *not* a palomino...the dilute gene does not exist in Arabians.  Fire N Ice is a chestnut.  He simply has an extremely flaxen mane (whitish), and his body is a golden chestnut color.  I've heard that the people who own Fire N Ice had him certified (or something like that) with some palomino organization that looks only at color, not genetics.  I've seen pics of him, and he does look a bit like a palomino.  However, he does not have the dilute gene that makes a true palomino (or buckskin), and therefore, he will never sire a palomino...unless the mare carries the dilute gene (she'd be a palomino, buckskin, cremello, perlino, grulla, smoky black, something like that).  In which case, she would NOT be a purebred Arabian.
