RE: [RC] 10K/5K member/horse miles updated - heidi

Wow, what a battle for that award! Yes I've looked up Les Carr's record too.
Very, very impressive. I do love looking up people's records that have done a
zillion miles. I am very amazed at how they did it and sometimes with only 2
horses in a given year. A little luck and lots of great horse management and
care went into records like that.
----------Karla Watson she rode 7K+ miles competing with Les Carr for the
national mileage
championship that year. he rode only a few less miles that year.

Not to take a thing away from Trilby's or Lad's incredible records, but
just for the sake of accuracy...

The AERC database shows Trilby with 60,500 miles. Lad managed an
impressive 21,025 (not quite the 23,000+ reported by one poster, but
still a heckuva lot of of miles). Lad's best mileage season was 4260.
I believe he and Trilby earned the national points championship that
year. It made some people mad, because she didn't run up front. I
personally thought it was terrific, because the way the system worked,
more miles could be an "equalizer" for riding fast. And that was
exactly what she did.

Pulls were not recorded prior to 1996. I do think Trilby had some pulls
prior to that. From that time on, the database does show her with 17
pulls--not very darn many for the miles she rode, but not the "zero
pulls" reported by someone.

In the "great trailer race" where she dueled it out with Les, she rode
about 34 different horses (give or take one or two--two are recorded as
just numbers, and one ride doesn't list the horse she rode). Les rode a
similar number. It was after that that AERC changed the mileage
championship to what you could accrue on just two horses.

She's still a whole lot tougher than most of the rest of us...
