Re: [RC] [RC] re: cantering/ring vs. trail, etc. - Juli Jakub

I like arena work! I guess my background in eventing, jumpers, and dressage is showing through! I love every minute I spend on my horse be it ring or trail and I find the type of exercises I can do in the arena challenging and fun. Trails and jumping cross country are more fun in the excitement sense, but I do enjoy a good arena workout where I can focus down and really practice specific things that I may not on the trail.( I do also do everything on the trail also....practice in the ring makes perfect, but you have to apply it too!) I also like to hone jumping skills there because the cross country course is no place to be making silly mistakes. But if arena work is boring try doing different exercises/patterns, transitions, use poles, cones, little jumps...the options are endless!! I can point you to good books for that or being a instructor I can give you some of mine that I have learned over the years... But I will say my husband agrees with you all...he finds arena work boring but he understands the need!!

I HATE arenas! It was sooo hard.
