[RC] Storms, generators and living quarters... - Steve Shaw

Saturday here in Aptos/Santa Cruz the power was out for 12 hours. It wasn't so bad until it got dark. Then I fired up my Honda 2000 EU that I have for horse camping, etc. It is so quiet. I had the dish TV and fireplace fan going though not all lights or refridge, and neighbors couldn't figure out why I had power and they didn't. They couldn't hear the generator out back, and this is a close beach subdivision. The Honda EU is about $900 but puts out 2000 watts and I can lift it with one hand. It has extra plugs that you can use to charge a 12 volt battery and plugs that let you link two units together to get 4000 watts if you want.
Back when we had the earthquake in 89 I hauled my horse trailer with LQ to the house and was able to cook, shower and even enjoy life while everyone else was miserable or concerned without power, water or gas.
Today is another big storm but with power for now.
Oh, without power the phone still worked, so I was able to internet and email on battery for many hours.

My horses are at a different area, but Don has not called for help! ... yet.
