[RC] Mud and fitness - JulienneWith all the mud we've had this winter season, I'm wondering how everyone is keeping their horses fit? I'm in Pacifica, CA and I haven't been able to go on further than a 7 mile ride these past few months because of the slippery, hilly trails around here! I'm riding her maybe 2 times a week, mixing it up with quadrille practice and getting out on the trails if at all possible. I'm wondering if Isabella and I are going to be fit enough for an early May LD ride and then 1-2 LD rides/month thereafter with a goal of *possibly* a 50 by the end of the year? Is that too lofty of a goal? We're usually at a slow-mid/turtle pace. A little bit of her history - we've ridden quite a few more CTR rides than LD's, completing 6 rides in one year in 2000 then last year I was able to come back and fit her up for 3 rides at the end of the year, 2 of which she finished in excellent condition (they were very high temp rides also) and 1 where we were pulled because of "hoof meets too many rocks" problems. She's out in a 35 acre muddy pasture with huge steep hills and lots of boyfriends to flirt, play and run around with. Am I being a nervous nelly here or should I just shut up and get my butt out there to find places to condition her for these rides? Julienne & Isabella (we're doing WHAT this year?) __________________________________ Celebrate Yahoo!'s 10th Birthday! Yahoo!
