RE: [RC] [RC] Public Perception - Laurie Durgin

I believe the majority of media stopped worrying about " reporting the facts, and facts only", a while ago......Now it is about Agendas, and getting new awards for sensation....

>>Too late for that Truman. On Monday a newsmagazine was e-mailed to
potentially every veterinarian in the country that stated "Roughly 10
>>>percent to 20 percent of endurance horses require invasive treatment
>>>>following an event, and about 1 percent of equines die due to participation
>>>>>in a ride." Libby

Whoa! Where did *those* numbers come from???? In the 100 or so rides I've attended, I have witnessed *one* death. Assuming there were an average of 100 horses per ride...shouldn't I have witnessed 100? To put that in perspective, in my pre-endurance life I had also witnessed one horse death on a pleasure ride so for me, the score is even...though considering I had only trail ridden with fewer than 100 or so different horses in my life and have endurance ridden with many times that, the *real* ratio would be higher in pleasure riding. (for me)

Were they talking about in Dubai? If so did they make it clear?

Angie McGhee 4000 miles, no invasive treatments or deaths...yes I know it can happen to the most careful, but so far so good.
