RE: [RC] Re:[RC] ride difficulty, leatherwood vs michaux madness??? - Laurie Underwood

Leatherwood “rolling”?  How about constant climbs and switchbacks?  Leatherwood is one of the toughest rides (if not the toughest) rides I’ve ever done … and I loved every minute of it.  My mare and I learned to tail there, a skill we have not needed at any other ride in the SE.

I rode Michaux.. and loved it.  Rather like the OD, but with 1/2 sized slopes, shorter climbs, and less rocks.  Scenery is awesome and there is lots of grass along the trails for grazing if you decide to stop and admire the views. There are flat sections as well -- perfect for cruising along and to give the horse a break from the hills.  Definitely doing it again this year!

Didn't ride Leatherwood, but a friend said she thought it was harder than the OD because of the constantly rolling terrain that didn't offer any relief. She said Leatherwood was a real test of endurance.
