Generally, when a farrier fits shoes to a horse's hoof, he/she leaves a tiny space between the hoof and the shoe on the inner side (facing the frog.) It is into this space the material is squeezed, and it is this tiny space that holds the material in place. My niece is going to help me apply it some day, when I need it.
