[RC] Broken Collar Bone - Karen Standefer

Hi, Cindy.

If you don’t wait until the bone is well on it’s way to healed, then you stand the chance of it not healing at all and having to have it plated.  It generally takes 6-8 weeks for the fibroblast material to lay down.  After that is done then the new bone material will follow.    That collar bone moves with just the most minor body movements.  You really want to keep it stabilized and immobile until bone material starts laying down.

Take it from a person with experience:  you want the bone to heal…….you do NOT want a floating unhealed fracture!  Give it time.

Course, you could just do what Angie did and just go in for the surgery right off the bat.

Just my $.02

Karen
