Well... come on... horses entering such a prestigious race must be able to
canter sound during 80kms at 20kph. They should be conditioned to perform at
the canter. 

I agree with you that this speed is unforgiving but I don't see thepoint to
enter such a race with a horse having 'rampant' problems.

Robin and Leonard,at the speed they are going you dont have to be an 
Einstein to figure out why lameness is rampant."The Dubai Race Track " in 
its simplicity is unforgiving for  most horses except for  the Carl Lewises 
and Michael Johnsons of the equine world.It is genetics at its simplest .A 
hilly and technically difficult tract would allow some respite for some 
muscle groups etc etc. Not there.
