We love our "hideous yellow/red" Ritchie waterers. They've been in constant service since 1970 and the ONLY problem we ever had was loss of power during a couple of ice storms. The cure during power outages is 1 or 2 of those floating vegetable oil candles inside each unit. That works for temps down to 0.
