[RC] Dabney's diet - Bruce Weary

Dabney, you go girl.
The horses need the carbs and extra protein after and during a hard campaign, for the reasons Tom Ivers explained here on RC and is his book, Optimized Nutrition. Their bodies are ready to receive those nutrients for tissue repair, and the normalization of their metabolic hormones, glycogen recovery and glucose levels. Too rich for everyday feeding, but good for recovery. Professional athletes eat differently when they are in competition than they do in the off season or when retired. If they didn't back off during down times, they'd become beached whales in no time. And conversely, if they undereat during times of strenuous work, they would lose muscle mass, strength and stamina. I know that after a tough 100, I kick back with a Corona and a 50 lb. bag of sweet feed, and I'm my old self in no time. Bruce Weary
