[RC] Dubai I - Steve Shaw

Well, I am just back from the WEC, crewing, observing and trying (for once) not to get in the way.
Have been up for 45 hours and in flight for 22.5.
Oh what fun to read all of the ridecamp missives and to laugh at all of the junk you all have been writing.

The only sensible things have come from the Teeter's and Nancy Elliot.
Once I get some sleep I will give you some first hand accounts and my take on what went right and wrong.

I will say that this event is NOT comparable to any other WECs or endurance riding. It is its own animal, and maybe should be. They do things differently over there and I can't really say whether it is right or wrong. They invite us to participate and take VERY good care of us over there. Both through hospitality and funding. It is good to have this every now and then. We have all learned a lot. They do have mountains over there that they could ride in and only two hours from the race site. But for them this is a spectator sport and a race, whether this is what FEI, endurance or the WEC should be is not really the issue. We should just do what we like here and not judge what other countries enjoy or do.
More later.
Steve Shaw
