[RC] Easyboot Epics Review - Julienne

I just recieved my Easyboot Epics today and couldn't wait to try them
out on my mare, Isabella. Her feet are hard enough that she doesn't
usually need hoof boots, but I was concerned that for the rockier rides
she'd wear her feet enough that I'd need extra protection for her.
We've tried Old Macs but I didn't like how bulky they were and they
made her trip enough that I sold them. However, a friend of mine
competed in both CTR and LD rides in Old Macs and they were successful
on his QH gelding. I liked the way Boa Boots looked, but decided to
hold off on them until the Easyboot Epics were released after hearing
preliminary reviews here on ridecamp.

So tonight we went on an 8 mile ride with a wide variety of terrain
from sticky deep mud, to steep, extremely rocky trail. I was VERY
pleased with how the boots held up.

Putting the boots on were a little trickier because of the extra
neoprene cloth covering the pasturn area. It didn't take more than 10
minutes, but I had to shimmy the boots on after removing the plastic
teeth which are a new addition to the easyboot. After fastening the
velcro straps snug but not tight, we were off. Isabella made a few
funny steps and hesitated on trotting out with those funny things on
her feet, but quickly adjusted. I peeked down throughout the ride to
make sure they were on after long trotting stretches and muddy sections
and they didn't budge!

I'm new to the trails here after just moving to Pacifica, CA so little
did I know at one point that the quickest way home would be an
extremely steep rocky trail that I eventually decided to get off and
walk down. I'm a pretty intrepid rider, but this trail was the
steepest I'd ever seen and with the new boots I didn't want to take a
chance of Isabella slipping, so I led the way while observing the
traction of the new boots. She slipped here and there, but considering
the condition of the trail, they held the ground well and she stayed in
fine shape after that stretch of trail (which we'll never go down
again!!).

Two thumbs up for the new Easyboot Epics! Not only do they hold up
well, they look pretty damn cool. ;) I also love the fact that you can
buy the easyboots and gaiters seperately in the case that one or the
other wears out quicker. I'm looking forward to using them in the
coming season.
