[RC] rearing - susan tweedale-hill \(golshani\)

Monty Roberts, in his book "From My Hands To Yours", suggests a cure for rearing horses. He puts goggles on a horse w/ tape covering the upper half. He says horses don't go where they can't see. He gradually removes the tape one eighth inch at a time.

As a kid I deliberately taught a horse to rear from instructions in a book. It was backing a horse into a corner and then tightening the reins to get a response. Eventually the horse would learn to get relief by rearing. Thus a tight grip on the reins may be contributing to the problem... we all certainly loosen the reins in response to a rearing horse to get him to lower his head.
