If you have a hay hook, it works really well to break the twine.  Just slide 
the tip under the string and twist.  You don't have to take your gloves off, 
and it usually only takes one or two turns.  Easiest way I have come up with to 
cut the twines, doesn't require a knife, (which I always lose or cut myself 
with.)  Another trick is to slide a piece of twine under the one you want to 
cut and saw back and forth.  It will cut thru the twine pretty quick with no 
implements at all, and again without taking off the gloves.   I used to use a 
piece of twine all the time, but the hay hook works even slicker and quicker.
