[RC] Hackamores? - Juli Jakub

I read the digests forever on this subject, but I wanted some fresh opinions too. Feel free to email privately as I do not want to goop up ridecamp again with hackamore discussions.
I am looking to put my horses in some sort of Hackamore for the winter. They are all trained to give to pressure. One has done some work in a sidepull when I was training her to ground drive, another rides in a halter occasionally, but I want to be sure I have some control in sketchy footing. My reasoning is that it is VERY cold up here in the High Peaks of the Adirondacks. I am tired of trying to warm up bits on my belly, in my armpits, by blowing on them ect ( and they never seem to get really that warm). I would like to ride them without a bit for the winter at least to avoid these problems and maybe continue to do so. They are mostly just doing walk and slow trot in the winter anyways....nothing too exciting! So what are opinions on different bitless options?....I like the idea of an S hack but the rope on the ones I saw seems thin and rough...I always think of something with fleece like you see in the jumpers, but the ones I found have LONG shanks which I would like to avoid. (Don't want to go too harsh) I also saw Indian bosal made out of soft rope on ebay...anybody know anything about those? If my horses or one of them likes going in a hackamore they will continue to go in it, but as of right now they all have been ridden in three piece snaffles. Any sggestions on milder type hack options and opinions on all hack options would be appreciated...
Thanks,
