[RC] starting new horses - Dream Weaver

You guys crack me up. volunteering is a great way to learn about the rides, bringing the horse can also be useful, just be sure to check with RM ahead of time to make sure it is ok. On lots of rides you can even help with the trail markings, either before or after the ride or maybe even drag. I remember drag riding the last 25 miles of the VC 100. That was great experience for the horses too. One good thing about having a horse you are already competing with is that when you do start a new one you can bring him or her along with you and start teaching them the ropes that way too. My youngest horse has been hauled all over this great country of ours this year, and then only ended up being ridden at two local rides this fall by myself, an hour from home -- he is probably the most travelled and least rode horse, but he really got a lot of great experience and now is going to be learning that these traveling vacations are not really 'eating' vacations! I always loved to go horse camping with my horses and then one time a friend decided to take me to camp one weekend at Wendell Robie Park, where I met and rode with a bunch of really nutty people called endurance riders. They really impressed me with all of their talk of broken bones and replaceable body parts that they had. I couldn't wait to do some ride called the Tevis. ;) Oh yeah, good idea to run the other way if this ever happens to you, and instead you can send me monthly payments of about $500 per month for life. You'll be saving money that way too. hehe
