Re: [RC] [RC] re: Epics - Barbara McCrary

Karen, if a horse wears a size 1 in the original EZ Boot, can he be expected to wear the same size in the Epics?

I ride a barefoot Mustang that has really great feet, and don't want to put shoes on if I don't have to....some questions about the Epics; do you use the "Goo" that goes in the boots to fill the space? Also, if training 3-4 days a week, how long will a set of boots last? And (last question, I promise!) if I measure her feet correctly, are the sizes ordered "true to size" or is it better to get one size larger to make up for variations in hoof shape? Thanks!

I wouldn't advise using foam with the Epics -- you might never get them off ;). As far as how long the boots will last, that depends on a lot of factors. Some horses are easier on their boots and shoes than others. It will also depend on the type of terrain that you ride in. I think the most I've gotten out of a set of boots this year was 13 rides, which was around 680 miles. Lots of times I'll use the boots to do a 5 day ride in, and then maybe another one or two days and then they get used for conditioning boots, or spares. The measurements usually work out pretty well, if you measure and your horse fits within that measurement for a certain boot size then that should work. I always try to go with the smallest size I can get on the foot, that way it stays put, and is less cumbersome for the horse that way. The new boots are more flexible that way, I can get a size 1 on a horse that before I couldn't. I can only do that on the hind feet because I cut the heelstrap out though. Karen
