RE: [RC] [RC] Tom Ivers and weight question - Juli Jakub

I have to pipe in and say that as a newbie Tom has been helpful to me, so make that four people. He has taken time out of his day to send me info to help me better understand what I am doing and has shown that he is willing to answer questions if and when I have them. I have his Optimal Nutrition book and although I am not all the way through it yet I have found it interesting, easy to understand, and incredibly helpful. I made it clear that I am in no position right now to become a top level endurance rider as I have neither the time nor the money ( maybe someday I could try that) but that I want what is best for my horses whom I do consider athletes whether I do endurance or eventing. He has still shown a willingness to help me.
I do have a question however about top level and international riding. What is the weight requirement and how do really light people cope? Can you just not compete at that level if you are light. I was an exercise jockey so needless to say I weigh in at about 100lbs soaking wet. Do people use weights in the saddles? How does that effect horses performance to be carrying dead weight in an endurance race? And at what level does a weight requirement come into play...just at the FEI levels? Thanks for any info...I was just wondering.

It seems that while I was out riding three folks said they have received
>useful information from Tom. That is an absolutely tremendous ratio of
>folks, considering the hundreds who visit regularly, yes?? =-=-=-=
>
