FW: [RC] Words--win, victory - Alisanne Steele

Having been a competitive long distance runner, marathon runner, ride-n-tie, etc., 20+ years ago, I have to tell you how refreshing the concept “to finish is to win” is to a newbie to endurance.  I have found a sport where at 40+, with a young and fit horse, the road seams to lie ahead of me rather than behind.  I am preparing for my first (hopefully of many) season of endurance competition, and believe me I will approach this with the spirit and belief that “to finish is to win”!

Should we prove competitive along the way, and be declared a “winner”, then what a nice bonus!

P.S:  In my opinion, the true winner in any equestrian event is always The Horse.

Win, v. won, winning, n. v.i. 1. succeed. --v.t. 2. gain, as a victory, favor, etc. 3. influence. --n. 4. victory.

Victory, n., pl. -ries.  success in a contest; triumph.

Notice the complete absence of the words, "first place".
