Hello Bette,
I liked the jewelry analogy, it's too bad the buyer wasn't listening. 
I have an old (and cranky) horse-dealer friend who will try just one 
minute to bring a low-ball bidder up to reality then he says "well 
it's obvious that you can't tell a good horse from a bad one so mine 
are not for sale" and he walks away.
