Re: [RC] selling horses - Jessica Spoone-Raines

I'm not experienced with selling horses, only buying them. My suggestion would be set your minimum price and what you want for her fully trained, then start getting her the experience she needs to raise it. Start advertising her now and insert a line about her price going up as she gains experience. Then raise the price incrementally as you go along and she gains the experience needed. If somebody wants the bargain they buy her now and get it but if you have to keep her for a year at least the price has gone up. Personally I have only bought 2 horses that were broke to ride, both older (18+) and mostly to save them from slaughter. Every other horse I have bought has been untrained and ranged in price from 500.00 for my unreg qh/arab to 1500.00 for my pinto and my reg morabs. If I was to buy a horse green broke I would pay 2500-3000 and one that has plenty of trail experience I would probably go as high as 5000 especially if they had the conditioning base for 50's.

Getting back to my original question - are we better off selling the >mare for whatever we can get now or do you think with more riding >we would have a better chance of selling her for $3000+ later?
