RE: [RC] Halfingers in Endurance? - Kristen A Fisher

Thanks everyone for the feedback! Mitch sounds like a kick. Everyone else kind of echoes what I thought about the cooling factor.

A friend said "I spoke to one of my customers in nm who breeds haflingers...she couldn't shut up about how good they are and how well suited for endurance and driving they are."

I'll relay this feedback, but you have to wonder how much she knows about endurance. BTW my friend is about 6'3", 190#. I think no matter how sturdy, 13.2 will be too small unless he wants to Fred Flintstone it for 25 miles.

I ride a Haflinger on the east coast. His name is Mitch. He's completed 400 miles including 50's at the old dominion and leatherwood. he's 13.2, 850 lbs and has a 14 mile an hour trot.
He's finished every ride he's entered, and never even been off, let alone lame. Their breed registry classifies them as "horses", and their greatest drawback is their poor cooling rate. If, however, you go slow enough, or cool aggressively enough, you'll find them nearly indestructible and sure footed (good mountain ponies).

Does anyone have any input about this breed in endurance? For other sport?

I know next to nothing about them. I thought they were ponies.
