[RC] rythym beads/spooking issues - heidi larson

You know what works for Ash?  I was given a small milk jug scoop to attach to my saddle and it rattles something fierce, also brushes against bushes/branches, makes that horrible plastic sound!! Anyway, he's less spooky when it's on the saddle, he can't really pay attention to imagined or real sounds in the bushes.  (Like those carnivorous chipmunks and tiny birds!)  I switch it to the other side of the saddle just to keep him guessing.  And I'm loving the scoop way more than the sponge that I always seem to lose, or let get moldy!

I bought a pair of rhythm beads last year at Equine Affaire in Massachusetts from Zephyr Equine Gifts (http://www.zegifts.com/).  I looked at the link below and I like Sharon's better.   I'd been having spooking issues with my Standardbred on trail.  He had an incidence on the road with a dog, the boy who owned the dog and a large stick.  It wasn't pretty.  I ended up getting dumped on pavement in the middle of a busy street.  But this made him very nervous about anything coming up behind him.  I bought a pair of the beads, from Teddy Lancaster's booth.  Sharon was there and helped me pick out the appropriate beads (they have charms on them that mean things - so we picked ones that were calming and instilled confidence).  I rode him in a demo at EA and he was fabulous.  We've used the beads in competition as well since then.  They are not expensive, they look great and if they help, that's a bonus.

Ok, I'll try that. I will definitely never be finished learning! Thanks so
much!

improve their horse's performance by enhancing their horse's stride rhythm.
Maybe you should too! Rhythm Beads are known to help calm and relax both
horse and rider!
