[RC] Spot's accomplishments - agilbxr

Yesterday morning, for the first time ever, Spot walked away from the barn, with a rider, and without any buddy horses, and went out on the trails ALL BY HIMSELF! I was soooo proud of him.  I did have to lead him across the one little stream (one thing at a time....), but otherwise he was very good.  We did a whopping 1.5 miles of walking, and had only one minor spook (at a butterfly of all things...not the turkeys that were bopping around the trail too).  About a mile out, we got into some flys, and he got annoyed, and then discovered he was alone, so he had to yell a bit, but I got his attention back, and that was it.  He didn't even try to drag me towards home! Yay!

After 4 months of hard work with this spotted turkey, I am so happy with his progress.  4 months ago, I had an Appy that wouldn't ride away from the barn to the round pen.  Now, I am getting a (somewhat) brave trail horse.  Over the next couple of weeks, we are going to work on those stream crossings.  I hate getting my feet wet. :)

Oh, and for those who know Alpine, the vet was out Friday, and was thrilled at his progress.  He still says it's a minor low bow, but that he looked great.  He says 4 months off, I say 9, and we'll have a happy comprimise somewhere in between.  He's being stalled (he has a pen too...) during the day, and turned out at night when the others are up, so there isn't any shenanigans, and he can still move around some.  And not drive us crazy.

Anyway, had to share.  Soon I hope you will be subjected to "Spot's First Endurance Ride Story".  Ok, sometime next year...but that's soon...
