[RC] WEC competetion/different sport - Laurie Durgin

Or you could look at it this way. It really isn't AERC endurance riding. It is track racing. Only our TB gambling syndicate hasn't jumped into it --yet. Somehow it morphed from endurance riding-One horse, one rider , one day, 100 miles- a personal challenge with an equine partner to ---a loooonnng version of Tb track racing.
It was kind of exciting, interesting, same as the Kentucky Derby--watching the elite, admiring the horses.Rooting for the underdogs, that almost have a chance--but almost is getting more distant each year.....

Right now it seems to have evolved on the international level to --a form of track racing -without the gambling windows ,yet . Right now, it has passed the average orginal rider who does it for the personal challenge (with some competetive instincts) . It is in transition --so the "little" big guys with interest and $$$ and who really do it; " professionally", are probably going to have a major edge.
Guess there is a real tinge of bitterness, to have it become so... not as it was 'intended to be'.

But those who are saddened to see it "morph" so----It will probably be taken over by the same machine who now track races--- "they just haven't noticed it yet" . If they decide to get into it, and seems it may be headed there--- the current quasi-professionals may lose their edge too.....

It really isn't the same sport. I occasionally like to watch other horse sports-- , but in all of them, rodeos, jumpers, hunters, polo, to some, the horse is just a tool to win or be competetive with, it's a machine , however admirable--- to others the horse is a mystery, a companion, a family member---
Angie McGhee and her 'type' are my kind of heros .(there are others, I just don't know their stories as well....)ah yeah, Julie Suhr, Trilby, etc.
