Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] WEC TV - Maryanne Gabbani

I'm already persona non grata with the FEI, so why not? I spent the year after my husband died not riding much but I was collecting in/out times and vet information for our (ie Egyptian) riders at the FEI rides that year. I did so by setting up a laptop at the gate where the horses exit the vet area. Everything is done by swipe cards and the possibility for fiddling if no one is watching and the people operating the system are coerced is enormous. I started doing this, not that any of our riders cared to find out the data I collected and that's another rant, because there were people puzzled by some in and out times that just didn't work. Like someone would go into the vet check after a rider and leave before. No matter how you work that out, it's odd. You could come into the base camp after and leave before, that's conditioning and training, but not the vet check. So I spent a year watching. A card is a card is a card, and they are the size of a credit card. Not hard to figure it out and I doubt that they'd do that anywhere but one of the poor cousin countries.

I don't know if it still goes on because the local federation don't like me much either and the feeling is pretty mutual. Last race I accidentally showed up at (they don't publicise the places and times here) I saw a horse that was so lame in the vet check it had to be hazed with a dressage whip to make it trot badly. I watched the check afterwards and then spoke to the rider to find to my amazement that the horse passed. Next loop it was standing in the desert on three legs. Nice little stallion too. Damn

I come by my prejudices honestly, unfortunately.

Shots of the vet check are exactly what you will never get from a UAE ride. Believe me.

Amen.... I realise it is the local hero, king ,whatever, but there are other riders and horses and things going on, that is interesting to other riders, family, horse people. Too bad, the camera people aren't filming for the horsey crowd. We'd like to see more horses, trots outs, the riders haggard countenance, cooling down techniques, comformation shots, , gait analysis, ... that kind of stuff, so we can live vicariously ......."wow, look at that one, doesn't he look a little off on the right rear", # so and so looks shortstriding","hey, they are using rump rugs, " no you idiot, don't put cold water on the butt and back"," hey , what kind of shoes does he have on that horse?' , 'rider # zzz looks like he is going to get sick, right here on nat'l tv...,"let um, eat, let um eat..., boy that horse is strung-out looking......Did you see that rider bump that horse...
Heck, we could have even more fun,if they did shots of those vehicles following and what they are doing--- really the overhead tent shots, and the top 7 guys is a bit old....I bet I will be able to recognize them on a ride anywhere worldwide, without my contacts, cause I have their riding form memorized,,, I can pick them out , the whole family by their particular style...
Back to my cold popcorn and mayube now the feed is back. I actually had sound for about 5 minutes.....twice

There's a truck with a guy hanging out filming the Maktoums...that's how they did it here. I do wish we could see something other than his excellency's rugged countenance. Most of the horses look good just doing easy canters over flat ground. Haven't seen a single shot of the US team so far. The camera at the out gate at least gets a shot of folks' backs and horse butts.
