[RC] [RC] Legislation to reverse Burns Amendment - mustang bill - - Nat Nelson

While I'm all for wild horse roaming free on our
public lands, I am also 100% all for the Burns
Amendment. Let me explain why.

The horses that the Burns Amendment refers to are the
ones that have been culled off of the public lands to
keep the numbers down. The culled horses are offered
for public adoption, however not all of them find
adoptive homes. The unadopted horses are then put onto
feed lots where they live the rest of their days -
penned, no longer free. These horses can not be
re-released back into the wild as it would defeat the
purpose why they were culled in the first place...To
lower the numbers so the land can support them. Nature
has it's balances, if the numbers are high the horses
face stravation.

There are literally THOUSANDS of mustangs on feed lots
no longer free. Just imagine the feed bill - which by
the way US tax payers pay millions of dollars per
year.

The mustangs heritage is not in danger - there will
always be wild horses running free on public lands.
The surplus horses are adopted out and unadoptable
horses (which many get several chances in the adoption
pen) go the feed lots. Those are the only horses that
the Burns Admendment are talking about. I feel that
the goverment should have the option of selling them.

If folks want to save the mustang, I say go adopt one!

<<Legislation has been introduced (1/25/05) to reverse
the Burns Amendment to the Wild Free-Roaming Horse and
Burro Act. As you know, the Burns Amendment opens the
door to the slaughter of thousands of our wild
horses.>>
