[RC] Owyhee Canyonlands - VS Update - Steph Teeter

For folks coming to Owyhee Canyonlands:

A case of VS was diagnosed in eastern Idaho last week - 200 miles east of
us. There are no outbreaks or diagnoses in this area (SW Idaho). No danger
to your horses. Anybody travelling home from the ride to Oregon, Washington,
California: we will have a vet here issuing special travel permits for
border crossings, stating that your horses have been examined, are VS free,
and are coming from a VS free area. Montana, Wyoming and Utah are VS states,
so nothing special is needed there.

Regarding VS - vesicular stomatitis - the disease itself is not serious to
livestock, but it is important for states to keep track of outbreaks because
the symptoms are similar to hoof & mouth disease - which IS a big deal -
when the symptoms are found in livestock (typically blisters on mucous
membrane), diagnosis is reported statewide.. So we're dealing with it
according to state regs.

Otherwise - trails are in great shape! Weather looks good - see you soon-

Steph
