[RC] Benadryl - Kathy Copeland

Title: Benadryl

------------------------------------------------------------

The dosage for a horse is 25mg (one tablet or caplet).  My vet prescribed this and it was confirmed for me by Heidi Smith at ROTR.  My mare eats hers in her beet pulp. It works real well when she is being driven crazy by gnat/midge hatches. You must discontinue feeding 3-4 days before a ride.

Apple cider vinegar and garlic also help a lot with keeping the gnats/midges away.

She also gets fresh ground flax seed which is a great antioxidant.

I have a couple of horse with bad fly allergies, my husband who is a vet but them on Benadryl and the dose for a horse is 25 mg per hundred lbs. twice a day and the dose can be doubled if need be.  So start out with the recommend does and increase if necessary up to double the dose.
