Re: [RC] NATRC CTR and AERC Endurance - Sky Ranch

You're on, girl, I'll save you a seat, and anyone else who wants a margarita
(or two) and a silly grin - I lived in Austin for 22 years and know the
Paseo del Rio quite well!

:-) I'll start my silly grin now --

I have only recently joined Ride and I am a novice at both Endurance (I
have to renew My AERC membership) and CTR (I am a NATRAC member)and I
have
to put my 10 cents worth in (inflation you know).

I agree with Carla Sky Ranch's letter 100%. I have hear others tell me
they
quit ride camp due to the bickering. Maybe some don't intend it to come
across as bickering, just hones opinions without a put dow.

I agree we need to stick together because we are becoming a minority and
the
city folks are moving to the country and many are wanting those trails
exclusively for joggers, walkers, runner, or bicycles, etc, but they don't
like and or fear horses and don't want them out there. I have been on
multi
use trails that had been reworked in a way that had rocks under the
surface
on the sides of the trail so that when you moved over to let foot trafic
or
bicycle traffic pass, you ended up with your horse stepping thru the
surface
into the jumbled rocks! No horseman designed or had any input into that
new trail repair job"! Improvements like that chase the horse people off
and for good reason. The sad thing is, the horse people had no idea this
had happened. It was, at the last time I was at Annadale (sp) out side of
Santa Rosa, California, just that one segment of trail. I don't know if
they have done similar "improvements" since then. To date I have not
found
a horse to replace the lame one.

Well, if I am not tied up with surgery (need to see when this convention
happens in San Antonio) I may come by and ask to sit down and have a
margarita with you and we can both sit with a silly grin and talk about a
future on the trails!

OK, enough of my say. Hope I don't get torched for chiming in!
Jo Ann

Hey, everyone,

I can't agree more with this post - I've been 'holding back' but ...

With the REAL challenges that are out there right now, like losing our
trails, high gas prices, government regs, health threats to our horses
(VS,
for one!), etc., the endurance riders and ctr riders need to get together,
pull together for what we love -- our horses(!), riding down the trails
with
our horses, camping and socializing with fellow horse lovers.

I know for a fact that many of us ride BOTH in endurance and in
competitive
trail riding competitions. BOTH venues have advantages and disadvantages,
depending on your point of view. But we all have a common goal - having
the
freedom to own horses, ride trails, and continually pursue the best for
our
horses.

PLEASE -- Quit the thread of "ctr-thumbs down" or "endurance riders don't
know horsemanship" -- neither is true. I for one am a new rider, and I for
one, will be in San Antonio, Texas for both conventions. Look for me --
I'll probably be drinking a margarita and have a silly grin on my face,
and
going down the Paseo del Rio.

Ok we all love our horses we all love riding distance, of some sort,
some
of any sort. Out in the woods and on the plains etc.

We are having our conventions togeather in Feb. Think i heard there's
going to be a square dance togeather Friday night.

So those who want to visit and be socialble, perhaps we can share the
love.

what is it too hot to ride out there or what?
