For This Five Hours
(More or less)
by Kate Kearby

As Saturday morning comes I see a time ahead that brings life and joy to me. I
am a NATRC rider with a partner in my horse that few outside of NATRC will ever
know. We mount and all is at peace, there is no pain, no worry of the world,
just joy. The wondrous adventure and new experiences that will await us, this
day, this weekend. Each achievement, every step makes us stronger beings of
this world, smarter more alert.

Although we?ve taken many miles and moments together preparing for these
?events? there?s an exhilaration beyond the normal ride. There?s something in
the joy of different terrains, the ?test? involved and the family of like folks
that surrounds us. Yet we trot out alone or gallop together with a deep love
of life in our hearts, both horses and riders breathe deeply and grow larger
than life.

Each time there?s something learned, some good, some not so good, but fruitful
in their way. Like it?s time to retire the old one who has taught us much, or
the young one has qualities beyond what was known yet to develop. The old one
who?s joy in the trail masked her pain she so wanted to go and at last told us
it was time to not. The young one who went forward without fear on her own
called back with love that she was ready and would carry on.

Then to the great vistas and peaceful meadows, the forests of life and the
amazing skies. Those so blue and those full of thunder and thru all you go on.
Learning and loving the moment to stop and drink or graze. To run just for
fun. To communicate without words and beyond words with everything around you
and inside.

Then there?s the test, are you together, where do you need to be better. The
observations, the condition and soundness, where is the work to be done. What
is there to be a better team to move on to more joy, to grow and be more alive
with achievements almost beyond belief? Oh and the things that no one sees,
what amazement there is in the horse, the partner on this five hours (more or
less) that passes each day of ?the ride?.

I am a NATRC rider and my partner is my horse, we are a team and few outside of
NATRC will ever know this joy

the united states should 'de-unite' about 6 countries would maybe be about
right, with alaska and hawaii being their own. then everyone could always have
a nationals every year within 6 hours driving huh??? the U.S. is a big country
physically. nationals, every year is suppose to be the NATIONAL horses. if
it's east/west each year it's more like a 'super regional' St Louis Mo might
have been better, but last i looked on a map about 2 hours north of tulsa is
dead center U.S.

Or another option is rather than having a show, why not just add up the points
earned each year and 'crown' the champs by points at the convention?

Curious, How many other breeds have 'moving' nationals?

while OKC does have a water park near, i think tulsa does too.... rotten eggs
from oil refinery??? well there's not one nearby that i've ever seen, why gas
is so hi guys they closed the last one near here 20 years ago and it's a
housing developement now with $300,000 houses? Tulsa is not 'cow town' that's
OKC. Tulsa is 'Urban' but has some more 'quaint' things outside of the city.
I believe economics was a big factor, Tulsa was loosing most of it's big oil
business facilities to huston. they bid for AHA and everything is much cheaper
there. I heard at one time that AHA might move it's HQ there. Lots of pretty
office space available.... They could even nearby have a 'National' Arabian
Race Horse program and CTR and Endurance rides along with the show. Course
that would take alot of 'growth' within the AHA to pull something that big off.

Bobby Hart Jr and Ralstons, June Yahola's and a few other top farms and
trainers are within an hour of Tulsa. So maybe for a few years it's their turn
not to have to travel.?

The Morgan, a NE bred horse has been in OKC for 30+ years, maybe they succeed
because they have a positive attitude?

The Oklahoma Arabian Horse Club celebrates their 50th Anniversary next year,
one of it's founders Ivan Rowe was also one of the early Presidents of IAHA.
And Ft Reno and some of the ranches in Oklahoma like the Maple YL and the Mayo
family were some of the largest early populations of Arabians in the U.S.
(starting back around 1900 and just after WWII) so no, other than that QH have
a large population in the entire country Oklahoma is as much if not more
Arabian Horse country as anywhere in the U.S.

FYI Carlsbad is 6 hour drive from Albequrque. OKC is half that far from tulsa
and there's plenty of amusement facilities in both towns and educational
attractions that seem to be in need.

Seems funny this is probably the only thing Georgine and I agree on.....

Oh why should we be like other organizations, i don't know maybe we should
learn from them rather than going BANKRUPT because we cower to Whiners, Snobs,
and Me Me Me people. We should look for more people that are interrested in
supporting the breed and the organization... people who volunteer and step up
for the greater good....

You see I'll never show at MR Nationals... but i'll be there to volunteer my
time to help... Someone said the number of AHA members showing MR was
something like 15% wonder what percentage of them volunteer and work for the
promotion of the breed at shows and at local club functions? One of the
reasons Oklahoma is the 'horse show capital of the world', we've got
enthusiastic volunteers that love horses no matter what type or what they are
doing.

So if this move promotes the Arabian, (perhaps in a place that some think
doesn't 'speak arabian to me') and saves the AHA and it's members money.... I
don't know, i know it was different times but when the show was in OKC and
stationairy IAHA was pretty well off... It's worth a shot, and like i said for
the time the show is here it will be the central folks that will enjoy the
reduced travel time for a change... Maybe just Maybe AHA members will feel the
joy and companionship like the Morgans feel when the extended FAMILY comes
togeather once a year for the CELEBRATION ....

GIVE PEACE A CHANCE
