Hi folks,
My husband and I are thinking about heading east to do this ride, if we can get the week off. Can anyone tell me about it? What are the trails like? Rocky? Sandy? Amount of hoof protection needed? Our horses are shod...is that adequate? How difficult are the trails? Hilly, flat, etc.? I'm trying to determine the number of days my horse could do...he's just getting started in 50s (done 3 so far).
Thanks in advance,
Dawn in East Texas

Dawn,

This is typical Alabama mountains. Lots of short ups and downs and some may be steep. There are some rocks and given you probably don't have rocks to train in - you might want to pad up the front and shoes all around. I put equithane equibuild in my horse's front feet for this ride. There is plenty of trail water. The ride is super well managed.

The weather that time of the year is usually very nice -cool evenings and warm days. On saturday night there is a live band after the awards. As Nina said - they are worth the trip.
