[RC] Technophobia - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

So, could somebody show me how having a nervous breakdown over worrying about
how to feed, condition, get all the fancy monitors, etc. has made things better.

I can cite hundreds of individual horses that have been greatly improved
through scientific conditioning protocols. What you're calling new feeding
technologies, though, are, of late, taking us backward--the fat and fiber fad.
None of the horses I could tell you about were on that kind of
lethargy-inducing, colic-producing diet. You have to sort through the "science"
to find out what works--on the track, not in the laboratory. Nothing happens in
the laboratory, ever. Right now, applied science represents a clearcut "unfair
advantage" to technophobes--surprised the AERC hasn't banned it totally, in all
its insidious forms.

I mean, you're already down to "to finish is to win" so you can feel good about
losing. Why not "to show up with a stone cripple while totally ignorant of
anything technological is to win". Hell, celebrate ignorance if you're going to
embrace it. "Ignorance is King." "Long live mediocrity." Here's a good one, if
you take it literally: "The Devil's in the details"--and he's going to eat you
alive.

When's the last time you raced a 100 in a little over 7 1/2 hours, Bonnie? That
record's been broken a couple of times now. Did you notice? The TB record for a
mile has similarly been boked several times in the past few years. Standardbred
records are falling every year. And technology is just getting started in those
sports. Ya kinda gotta know what yer talkin' about, this day and age--if ya
wanna win.
