[RC] Efficiency Scores - DreamWeaver

One thing I picked up from Tom, is how to figure an Efficiency Score on my horse. Thru doing that, I was able to improve Chief's ES over the last year. As a result, his recoveries are better. It has been exciting to see the progress he is making. I think of this test as a report card on how our conditioning and rides are affecting him.

I found a description of how to figure an Efficiency Score at this link: http://www.iaest.de/documents/fitness-basic1-training-eg.pdf

Efficiency Score Index Test (esi)
Fitness test to measure meters per beat of heart rate. The
test can be done at trot and gallop. The fitter the horse the
lower the score.... Have distance measured e.g. 200 meters.
Trot or gallop through the set distance at a set tempo and
time it. 200 meters in 21 seconds. . Take the distance in
meters, (200m) divide by the average heart rate bpm (e.g. 140
bpm) for the distance. Calculation 200/ 140 = 1.43 and then .
divide the time in seconds 21 (1.43/21) = .07 and multiply by
60 (0.7x60) = 4.20 that means the horse heart rates beats
4.20 beats per meter. If in two weeks the esi is 4.1 then you
know your horse is getting conditioned This test can be done
bi weekly and compared

It is also on page 85 on Tom's book "The Fit Racehorse II", and there it is figured in "feet per beat". That's what I used, but it was easier to copy the above than retype.

I'm trying to find the spreadsheet I had started, if not I'll start a new one and would be happy to log the results from others that would like to do the same thing. I would be interested in seeing what other endurance horses scores are in similar conditions, and how that compares to mine.
