[RC] Imparting Knowledge - Bruce Weary DC

I think some more feathers are going to be ruffled here on RC regarding TI's comments on his frustration with how slowly scientific information actually reaches the real world and then becomes part of accepted practices. This is true in any field of information, and I think cooler heads will prevail on both sides. My mentor taught me that in any field of endeavor, most everyone involved is as least "partially right." The more we learn, the more partially right we become. Being totally right in a field of knowledge is not really attainable. When I began doing some post-graduate teaching, I learned the importance of not "rubbing someone's nose" in whatever misconceptions they might hold, as it tends to shut their minds down from learning anything new. It seems that in the learning process, the manner in which the information is presented is just as important as the quality of the information itself as far as successfully getting the intended audience to accept it. Most of us are uncomfortable, to some degree, being wrong about most anything. We don't like to get caught being wrong or uninformed about something, but we find it appealing when someone else is brave enough to acknowledge it about themselves.
I am glad TI is back, because he has a lot to offer. Perhaps we can stirke a deal. Tom, we in the field (or on the trail) will do our best to empirically test what the literature seems to be showing you. Maybe you can agree to continue giving us the beneit of your interpretive skills regarding what science is trying to tell us in the field of equine exercise physiology. Both sides can surely agree that this is all supposed to be fun and in the interest of maximizing thr performance of the horse safely. It's clear that part of your frustration lies in the snail's pace at which scientific information is understood, accepted and practiced. Help us to help you ease that frustration. Bruce Weary, often wrong, but never in doubt
