[RC] Tevis and barefoot horses - Kim Richman - Jonni

However, my gut tells me that the real reason why I had to pull is
because he had a mild tie up. I feel the tie up was due to all the alfalfa
he had at the vet checks crews were not allowed at. I didn't see any grass
hay offered, only alfalfa. This horse has not had alfalfa in 4 1/2 yrs.<<<

I don't feed alfalfa either, but knew it would be at the vet checks at
Tevis. I started the horse on a little a few days before the ride. I
actually have never had a problem with my guys, letting them eat alfalfa
during the rides, and not getting any "pre-ride" but I'm sure some horses may
be more sensitive. I'm just happy to see them eat what ever, and as much as
they will during the ride. Hank was actually rejecting the alfalfa, unless
I put it in the water trough, and he then ate it as it floated in the water.
I did find carrots, bran, and grain at the vet checks too, along with the
alfalfa.
