[RC] Girth Sore - Candace Kahn

Hi Karin,
In my experience different horses can tolerate different girths.  I have always used a 100% mohair string girth (since the 70's) on my horses and have never had a problem.  I believe it is because mohair is a natural product, the girth area gets air flow and the strings can move out of the way.  Last year I let someone use my horse for a very brief walking trail ride.  When he returned he had a gall on each side from the neoprene girth that was used.  I don't particularly care for neoprene as it doesn't breath and neoprene was designed to keep heat in.  I just really like the mohair girths.
I think what Skyla said is very important.  On a saddle with dressage billets, like the Barefoot Cheyenne, the girth should come at least halfway up the billet straps.

With Warm Regards,
Candy
