The national points award became know as the "great trailer race" and 
your observations are valid. Trouble with the Championship Series was it 
wasn't supported by very many so it really didn't mean much.

The Championship Ride seems to be supported and seems to be growing. It 
recogonizes the 50 and 100 mile events - what the members wanted. On the 
other hand it is primarly a "regional event" with the biggest majority 
of the riders coming from within the region.

I seems that for the majority of the membership the National 
Championship in any format is that that important to them. How about 
this for a revolutinalry cencept - have no national championship. Since 
most riders ride in thier regions and most rides get their riders from 
within their regions - have regional championships instead. It might 
make more sense and get more support from the riders.
