Re: [RC] dogs in camp - Barbara McCrary

We had been grinding our axe for YEARS, and we have solved (we think) the dogs-in-camp problem. We have set aside an area in which people who have brought their dogs may camp. Lud, in one of his treasured moments of light-heartedness, named it Dogtown, and we put up signs indicating it as such. The riders seem to enjoy the humor, and they appreciate being able to bring their dogs and camp with them. The restrictions, however, are 1) No dogs in the main camp, 2) No loose dogs, 3) No dogs at the Start/Finish line, 4) No dogs in the State or County parks, and 5) Dogs may be walked on leash only. I'm sure there have been some infractions behind my back, but in general, response has been positive and dog incidents greatly reduced. And....with the rules in place, if someone comes into the main camp with a dog, I just tell them this is not allowed. Generally, they are so happy to be able to bring their dogs at all, that they comply with the rules of the management.

Subject: Dogs endurance ride camp

Our club has an axe to grind, so I would like other opinions on Dogs in camp.

Thanks Joan
